In the description of the events surrounding the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus we find a remarkable passage. Pilate found no guilt in Jesus (Luke 23:14) and therefore gave the people a choice between releasing a murderer (Luke 23:25, Acts 3:14) named Barabbas, or Jesus. The people chose to release Barabbas. We find this described in all four Gospels.
son of the father
Barabbas means: son of the father. Scripture teaches that the entire human race is the son of the Father.
Acts 17
28 For in Him we live and move and have our being, as some of your poets have said, For we also are of that generation.
29 Since we are of the offspring of God…
The entire human race can be traced back to Adam, who is called the son of God (Luke 3:38). Compare Acts 17:26.
liberation
Because Jesus was crucified, Barabbas was released. The release of Barabbas is a model for the liberation of the entire human race. Through the death of the Lord Jesus all have died (2 Cor.5:15). Because He was raised from the dead, the entire human race will receive the same life He received, resurrection life that leaves death behind!
1 Corinthians 15
22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
