El Shaddai

El Shaddai is translated as: God Almighty. God is Almighty, which means that He is above all powers, because He is the one and only God. But that does not mean, as is sometimes said, that He can do everything. After all, God cannot lie, Scripture says.

1 Samuel 15
29 And the One who is immutable in Israel neither lies nor repents; for He is not a man, that He should repent.

Hebrews 6
18 …whereas it is impossible that God should lie (…)

what He desires
God is God because He can do anything He desires. God is the Placer and Disposer of all things. Whatever He wills, He can and will do. There is nothing that can stop Him from doing so. God is the only one who can make His decisions, without circumstances or others being able to influence or stop Him.

Isaiah 46
9 (…) I am God and no one else.
I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 Who declares from the beginning what the end will be,
of old the things that have not yet come to pass;
Who says, My counsel will be accomplished, and I will do all my desire.

shaddai
According to Interlinear Scripture Analyzer (ISA), shaddai (H7706) literally means: who provides sufficiency. Some interpreters say that shaddai is derived from shadad (H7703), which has to do with powerful, and also with destroying. But there are also sources that state that shaddai is related to shaddayim (H7699) and that is translated as breasts. We find both words in Gen.49:25.
Isn’t that a beautiful image? We, as children of the Father, receive, just like a baby through the breasts, exactly what we need. Everything is provided, not too much and not too little. We receive what we need. What we do not need is denied to us.

female?

God is the Father, and that is masculine. But Scripture does use female images to indicate attributes of God (Deut.32:18; Isa.49:15, 66:13; Matt.23:37; 1 John 5:1).
The child is not only fed at the breast. It also finds comfort, security and protection. It’s the place, close to the heart.
