God does not abandon the works of His hands

In many churches, words like these, or variations thereof, are spoken on Sunday mornings:

“Our help and our expectation is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Who keeps His faithfulness forever and does not abandon the works of His hands.”

Psalms
These magnificent words are taken from the Psalms, specifically from Psalm 124:8 and Psalm 138:8. Both Psalms sing of God’s faithfulness and speak of a God who saves and gives life. Our help and expectation are based on the faithfulness of that God.

This God is truly God, that is to say: the Disposer and Possessor of everything. After all, He is the Maker of heaven and earth, of the entire universe. Or as Paul says in:

Acts 17
24 The God who made the world and all that is in it, who is Lord of heaven and earth (…)

“God’s faithfulness is for the aeon,” Psalm 138:8 literally says. God remains faithful to the word He has spoken. Even when people are unfaithful. Paul says regarding this, with respect to the Jewish people:

Romans 3
3 What is the case? If some have become unfaithful, will their unfaithfulness nullify the faithfulness of God?
4 By no means! (…)

all
God remains faithful to His word. God is not a man, that He should lie (Num. 23:19). He is the God who made the world. It is the work of His hands and therefore He does not abandon what He has made.

The entire Scripture testifies to this. Already in the Psalms — such as Psalm 124 and 138, in which God’s faithfulness, salvation, and vivification are sung — themes resonate that Paul later explicitly revealed: the salvation and vivification of all!

1 Timothy 4
10 For this we toil and are reviled, that we hoped in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of believers.

2 Timothy 1
10 (…) our Savior, Christ Jesus, who abolishes death and brings imperishable life to light through the gospel.

Salvation and vivification for all people. Not on the basis of our works, but on the basis of God’s faithfulness. He has promised it. It is His creation and He does not abandon the works of His hands.
